Polish growers top beneficiary of EU aid

Polish producers of apples and pears may be the biggest beneficiaries of the EU aid granted to the 12 EU countries affected by the Russian embargo.

Producers will receive support for the withdrawal of more than 155,000 tonnes of apples and pears, while Belgium, for instance, will receive compensation for 21,000 tonnes of fruit; the Netherlands, for 9,000; and Italy, for 8,000 tonnes. These limits have been established on the basis of the average volume of exports to Russia.

The amount of aid to Polish producers of vegetables such as carrots, peppers, tomatoes and cucumbers puts Poland in third place, behind Spain and the Netherlands. Payments will cover an amount of a little over 18,650 tonnes of vegetables.
