Further increase in Ukrainian fresh produce price index
Fruit-Inform Ukrainian fresh produce price index went up by 0.3% in the week from December 20th to 26th. As a result, the positive price performance has been registered in Ukraine for the eighth week in a row, and the price index has already become 54.4% higher over that period.
“After a sharp increase in fruit and vegetable prices a week before, the situation stabilized. However, prices did not go down, as importers took their risk into account when fixing their price levels”, says Ms. Tetiana Getman, Head of Fruit-Inform. “A significant increase in white cabbage prices should also be noted, as exporters and internal market operators’ demand for that produce category grew last week”.
Prices of greenhouse vegetables have been stable for the first time over long period. However, their already high price levels have already led to a fall in the demand.
Fruit prices also stabilized last week. A slight increase was registered only in banana prices; therefore, the fresh fruit price index has grown just by 0.7%.
