Ukrainian fresh produce price index up due to hryvnia devaluation
Fruit-Inform Ukrainian fresh produce price index went up by 3.1% in the week from February 7th to 13th, after an increase of 1.4% a week before. As a result, the price index has been growing in Ukraine for more than three months and has become 79% higher over that period.
«Last week the price index grew mainly thanks to an increase of 12.4% in fruit prices», says Ms. Tetiana Getman, Head of Fruit-Inform. «The price growth was registered due to the devaluation of the Ukrainian hryvnia, as all fruits (except apples) were imported ones».
An ongoing increase in prices of traditional vegetables should also be noted. Table beets became 15.8% more expensive, and their prices have almost reached carrot ones. Onions remained the most expensive category among traditional vegetables despite an increase of 6.1% in white cabbage prices. At the same time, potato prices have been stable for the second week in a row.
As regards the segment of greenhouse vegetables, an increase in prices of imported tomatoes was almost fully compensated by a fall in prices of cucumbers, which season has started in almost all domestic greenhouse farms.
