Ukraine sharply reduces table grape imports

Ukraine has significantly reduced imports of table grapes in the first half of the season 2014/15, according to Fruit-Inform.

Ukraine has imported just 18,600 tons of table grapes in July-December 2014, a decrease of a third year-on-year and the lowest result over the past 10 years. Turkey traditionally led in exports to Ukraine and accounted for the share of almost 90% in Ukraine's total table grape imports.

A fall in imports is connected with the devaluation of the Ukrainian hryvnia, which has resulted in a sharp increase in prices of imported table grapes in the country. For comparison, table grape prices often reached UAH 30/kg (1.03/kg) in 2014 against varying between UAH 15-20/kg (EUR 0.52-0.69/kg) in the mid-October 2013.

More detailed information about the Ukrainian table grape market developments will be presented at the 6th International Conference «Berries of Ukraine-2015: Frozen Produce & Fresh Market». The conference will be held on May 21-22, 2015, Kiev, Ukraine.
