Ukraine: third week of a decrease in fresh produce price index
Fruit-Inform Ukrainian fresh produce price index went down by 8.3% in the week from March 21st to 27th, after a decrease of 1.9% a week before. As a result, the price index has decreased for the third week in a row and become 20.2% lower over that period.
«A fall of 14.7% in prices of greenhouse vegetables made the largest contribution to a decrease in the fresh produce price index last week. Prices of other produce categories also went down», says Ms. Tetiana Getman, Head of Fruit-Inform. «Traditional vegetables became 12% less expensive due to problems with exports and more active sales in view of closer start of a new season. Potato prices went down by 2.2%. Potatoes also remained the least expensive product among fresh produce categories in Ukraine: their current prices vary between UAH 2.00-2.80/kg (EUR 0.07-0.10/kg), depending on region».
The sharpest week-on-week price decrease was registered in the onion segment: down by 20%. A decrease in white cabbage prices was also rather sharp: down by 11.1%. At the same time, fruit prices almost stabilized in Ukraine: down by 1.7% thanks to a decrease in mandarin price levels.
