Ukraine: average annual price of apples to be the highest over past 5 years

Average annual wholesale price of apples in Ukraine in the season 2014/15 will be the highest over the past 5 seasons.

As of the beginning of May 2015, average price of apples in Ukraine over the period from July 2014 to May 2015 exceeded UAH 8/kg (EUR 0.34/kg), while in the previous season it was slightly higher than UAH 5/kg, and stood at UAH 6.05/kg five years ago.

It should be noted that apple prices were higher year-on-year during the whole season 2014/15. Prices during apple harvesting were 20-25% higher than in August-September 2013 thanks to high export demand. A year-on-year difference reached 30-35% in winter, when the supply of domestic apples started rapidly decreasing, and reached 50-55% in the beginning of spring, when imported apples accounted for the largest share in sales in Ukraine.
