Ukrainian fresh produce market characterized by seasonal fall in prices
Fruit-Inform Ukrainian fresh produce price index has fallen by 6.8% in the week from May 23rd to 29th, after a decline of 6.9% a week before.
«A fall in prices was registered in all fresh produce segments last week with greenhouse vegetables being the leader in negative price trend after a fall of 13.6% in their prices», says Ms. Tetiana Getman, Head of Fruit-Inform. «Furthermore, greenhouse vegetables are expected to keep on becoming less expensive this week».
Prices of early white cabbage have fallen below the price levels of last year's produce, which season has almost come to an end in Ukraine. At the same time, prices of early potatoes still were significantly higher than those fixed for last year's produce, which stocks were still too high. Early onions also remained more expensive than last year's ones; however, prices of the latter have started going down.
The Ukrainian fresh fruit segment was characterized by the start of sweet cherry sales and a further fall in strawberry prices resulting in a decrease in the demand for other fruits. At the same time, banana prices have slightly gone up.
