Ukraine: sweet cherry prices down year-on-year at some wholesale markets
Despite later start of the Ukrainian sweet cherry season, prices at wholesale markets in Khmelnytskyi and Kherson have already fallen below last year's levels, according to Fruit-Inform daily price monitoring.
In particular, sellers at Kopani Wholesale Market, Kherson Oblast, are ready to ship sweet cherries at UAH 10-20/kg (USD 0.46-0.92/kg), depending on quality and variety, against at least UAH 13/kg (USD 1.10/kg) a year before. It should also be noted that sweet cherries have become 35% less expensive week-on-week there.
As regards Dubovo Wholesale Market, Khmelnytskyi, sweet cherry prices vary between UAH 18-35/kg (USD 0.83-1.61/kg) there, while in the same period of the previous season they were not lower than UAH 22/kg (USD 1.86/kg). A week-on-week decrease in prices at Dubovo Wholesale Market amounted to 50%.
Meanwhile, sweet cherry prices at other Ukrainian wholesale markets are still higher year-on-year.
They vary between UAH 20-40/kg (USD 0.92-1.84/kg), depending on variety and quality, at Shuvar Wholesale Market, Lviv, and are relatively stable now. However, current prices are averagely 40% higher year-on-year.
As regards Ozerka Wholesale Market, Dnipropetrovsk, prices have fallen by 50% week-on-week and reached UAH 20-30/kg (USD 0.92-1.38/kg). However, despite a decrease in prices since the previous week, they are still 70% higher year-on-year.
Sweet cherry sales have also started at Stolychnyi Wholesale Market, Kiev. Current prices quoted by wholesale sellers vary between UAH 30-35/kg (USD 1.38-1.61/kg) there, a third higher than registered a year before.
