Ukrainian fresh produce price index slightly down last week

Fruit-Inform Ukrainian fresh produce price index has declined by just 1.2% in the week from June 13th to 19th despite rather significant price fluctuations in different fresh produce segments.

«Traditional vegetables have become less expensive due to an increase in the supply of early produce last week», says Ms. Tetiana Getman, Head of Fruit-Inform. «At the same time, negative price trend has slowed down in the segment of greenhouse vegetables, while fruit prices kept on growing».

The fresh fruit price index has grown by 5% thanks to feverish demand for Ukrainian strawberries and sweet cherries in Russia. Their prices have jumped by 25% week-on-week against a background of a significant increase in their supply in the internal market. As a result, Ukrainians will unlikely face low prices of berries and cherries in this season, as strawberry harvesting campaign is coming to an end even in the central and northern regions. A slight increase in prices of bananas and mandarins should also be noted.

We would remind you that more detailed information about current developments in the Russian and Ukrainian fruit and vegetable market is available for the subscribers of Fruit-Inform service packages.
