Ukraine: cucumber prices sharply down
The Ukrainian market is currently characterized by a rapid decline in cucumber prices (in the western regions especially), according to Fruit-Inform daily price monitoring.
Prices have halved at Shuvar Wholesale Market, Lviv, over a week: from UAH 8-9/kg (EUR 0.32-0.36/kg) in the middle of the previous week to current levels of UAH 4.00-4.50/kg (EUR 0.16-0.18/kg).
Cucumbers are now offered at UAH 5-8/kg (EUR 0.20-0.32/kg) at Dubovo Wholesale Market, Khmelnytskyi, against UAH 9-12/kg (EUR 0.36-0.48/kg) a week before.
A week-on-week decline in prices is less significant in Kiev and Kherson. Current prices vary between UAH 4-5/kg (EUR 0.16-0.20/kg) at Kopani Wholesale Market, Kherson Oblast, while a week before they stood at UAH 6-7/kg (EUR 0.24-0.28/kg) there. Prices have also fallen from UAH 8-9/kg (EUR 0.32-0.36/kg) to UAH 5-6/kg (EUR 0.20-0.24/kg) at Stolychnyi Wholesale Market, Kiev.
The most expensive cucumbers are now offered at Ozerka Wholesale Market, Dnipropetrovsk. Sellers are ready to sell their produce at UAH 6-7/kg (EUR 0.24-0.28/kg), a decrease of 25% week-on-week.
The market analysts connect a decline in cucumber prices with higher supply of field-grown produce in Ukraine and currently low exports.
