Ukraine: growers start table grape harvesting campaign
Ukrainian farms have started their table grape harvesting campaign this week, according to Fruit-Inform.
The season started averagely two weeks later than a year before due to cold spring. Growers also expect yields to be averagely lower year-on-year due to sharp drops in temperature in winter and a cold spell in spring. In addition, many growers complain about spread of funfus diseases. This negatively affects quality of grapes and their shelf life; therefore, farms are sometimes forced to sell at prices lower year-on-year despite moderate production.
Growers now offer their first volumes of table grapes at UAH 10-40/kg (EUR 0.40-1.59/kg), depending on variety and quality. For comparison, prices varied between UAH 20-40/kg (EUR 1.20-2.40/kg) in the same period of the previous season.
