Ukraine: fresh produce price index up last week
Fruit-Inform Ukrainian fresh produce price index has grown by 7.6% in the week from September 5th to 11th, after a fall of 12.3% in the previous week, thanks to positive price trend in the segments of seasonal and traditional vegetables.
«Thanks to an increase of 18.5% in prices registered under conditions of lack of high-quality produce in the market and active purchasing activity, potatoes made the largest contribution in growth in the fresh produce price index», says Ms. Tetiana Getman, Head of Fruit-Inform. «Significant contributions were also made by seasonal vegetables (up by 22.2% in prices) and traditional vegetables (up by 6.2%)».
A special attention should be given to an increase of 14.3% in onion prices and 10% in carrot ones. Carrots and white cabbage remained the most expensive categories in the segment of traditional vegetables due to the interseasonal period: early and middle-season varieties had already been harvested, while the harvesting campaign of late ones had not started yet.
Apples were the only fresh produce category with negative price trend last week. Apple prices were under pressure of ongoing harvesting of some late varieties under conditions of still insignificant exports. Prices of other fruits were stable.
