Belarus leads in kiwifruit exports to Russia
Belarus has doubled fruit exports to Russia after a year of the food embargo and become the largest supplier of kiwifruits to that country.
Russia's imports of fruits from Belarus totaled 672,100 tons in August 2014 – July 2015 against just 325,100 tons in the same period of the previous season. In particular, imports of Belarusian pears grew 2.84 times, apple imports went up by 96%, citrus imports increased by 60%, and stonefruit imports were 103% higher.
Moreover, Belarus accounted for 10,000 tons of Russia's total kiwifruit imports (53,000 tons) despite no kiwifruits being produced in Belarus.
In total, Russia imported slightly more than 5 mln tons of fruits, a decrease of 18% year-on-year. As a result, per capita consumption of fruits has fallen in Russia from 48 kg to 40 kg per year.
