Georgia increased the export potential of fruit and vegetable products

Georgia started actively increasing the export potential of its fruit and vegetable industry, declared APK-Inform Agency, referring to the official statistics of the country. Thus, in the period of 2009-2013 the exports of fresh vegetables and fruit from Georgia grew by 17%, and reached 101 thsd tonnes. Moreover, in the same period the exports in monetary terms doubled and exceeded 200 mln USD.

In many ways, the reporting trend was caused by reorientation of the fruit and vegetable sector in Georgia towards the exports to the EU, due to the strained relations with Russia. Thus, the EU share in the general exports from Georgia grew from 12% to 20% in physical terms, and from 50% to 57% - in monetary terms. While showing a fairly modest share in the volume of export supplies, the European importers provide more than half of all foreign currency revenues to the Georgian fruit and vegetable industry.

The fruit and vegetable sector of Georgia demonstrates the confident development of its export market, as the domestic market is relatively small compared with the produced volumes of fruits and vegetables. Moreover, supplying on the EU market requires high-quality indices and post-harvesting treatment of products, for which Georgian producers actively use advanced technologies, said Elena Cherednichenko, editor-in-chief at APK-Inform Agency. Therefore, development of the export potential of the fruit and vegetable sector is one of the main goals at the first agricultural forum in Georgia "Georgia Agro Forum -2015".

APK-Inform Agency organizes the forum within frames of the exhibition Agro+Food+Drink+Tech Expo Georgia 2015, which is the leading event for the agro-industrial complex of Georgia. More than 200 domestic and foreign leaders of the agricultural industry will visit the forum as delegates, to attend its lively business and networking program.

The event received the full support from the official agricultural authorities of Georgia and the Georgian Farmers Association, which guarantees broad representation of local producers of fruits and vegetables. In turn, the fact opens up significant opportunities for suppliers of seeds and seedlings, agrochemicals and fertilizers, treatment processing and storage technologies.

As a reminder, the Forum takes place in Tbilisi on November 19, and the early bird rate for registration is active until September 30. You can receive more detailed information about the event, its preliminary program, conditions of participation and advertising opportunities at the forum website.
