Ukraine: fresh produce price index sharply up again
Fruit-Inform Ukrainian fresh produce price index has grown by 11.7% in the week from September 26th to October 2nd due to a seasonal factor, after a fall of 7.3% a week before.
«The most significant contribution to an increase in the price index was made by prices of imported fruits, which started becoming more expensive in advance of a new season», says Ms. Tetiana Getman, Head of Fruit-Inform. «An increase in potato prices should also be noted despite the reports of Ukrainian Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of currently abundant supply of potatoes in the country».
Prices also grew in the segments of cucumbers (due to the end of the season of field-grown produce) and onions (thanks to still prevailing demand for them). However, several products became less expensive last week: white cabbages (due to the start of harvesting late varieties), carrots, red beets and tomatoes.
