White cabbage prices double year-on-year in Crimea, Ukraine

Current white cabbage prices in Crimea are 2-2.5 times as high as registered in the mid-October 2014 and keep on growing, according to Fruit-Inform daily price monitoring.

Now prices vary between RUB 16-24/kg (USD 0.24-0.35/kg), depending on quality, at Krymskiy Privoz Wholesale Market, Simferopol, against being at no higher than RUB 20/kg (USD 0.30/kg) a week before.

According to the market participants, sellers manage to raise prices thanks to rather limited supply of produce in the market. Local farmers have not started harvesting late varieties yet. Shipments from Ukraine are blocked, and shipments from Russia are rarely registered due to irregular operations of Kerch Straight Ferry Line.

It should be noted that many market participants are sure that white cabbage prices will start gradually decreasing after activization of produce shipments from Russia. However, they do not expect that decrease to be significant.
