Poland: frozen fruit production up 23%

Poland's production of frozen fruits and nuts in the first two months of the current season (July-August), which is a crucial period, amounted to 162 thousand tonnes; an increase of 23 percent compared to the previous season (data for companies employing 50 people or more), report analysts of Bank BGZ BNP Paribas.

Last season, the frozen fruit volume reported during these two months accounted for as much as 46 percent of the total production. Such a large increase in the production of frozen foods may seem surprising in the context of an estimated decline in the supply of raw materials for processing, especially given the projected decline in the production of raspberries; however, there will be a greater volume of sour cherries (last year, due to low prices, some of the fruit was left unharvested), as well as a higher strawberry production (+1.7 percent, to 206 thousand tonnes).
