Kazakhstan: apple prices up year-on-year

Apple prices in Kazakhstan have grown by 15-20% year-on-year, according to Fruit-Inform.

Now farmers ship their apples at KZT 250-300/kg (EUR 0.81-0.97/kg) against KZT 220-250/kg a year before. A year-on-year increase in prices is connected with the devaluation of the national currency in Kazakhstan and relatively high prices in supplying countries.

Fruit-Inform analysts say that the Kazakh apple market seriously depends on imports despite rather rapid increase in domestic production. About 80% of the demand for fresh apples are covered by imported produce with Poland as the main supplier.

Kazakhstan imports rather high volumes of apples even during active domestic harvesting campaign: the country annually imports 20,000-25,000 tons of apples in September-October, about 15% of total annually imported volumes.

The market experts expect a further increase in apple prices in Kazakhstan with the price growth peaking in November-December: as a rule, prices of fresh apples grow by another 15-20% in that period.
