Ukrainian apples remain one of the least expensive in the Eastern Europe
Apple prices in Ukraine remain the lowest among Eastern European countries.
According to Fruit-Inform price monitoring, Ukrainian growers now ship apples at no higher than 0.24 euro/kg. For comparison, prices vary between 0.17-0.31 euro/kg in Poland, and Russian growers offer their produce at 0.35-0.60 euro/kg.
Such low prices for Ukrainian apples are registered due to lack of export demand. Fruit-Inform estimates Ukrainian exports to total about 40,000 tons last year; therefore, Ukrainian farmers managed to sell at rather good prices. The situation in the current season is less optimistic, as Ukraine has lost its access to the Russian market due to Crimea blockade. Moreover, the situation is aggravated by lack of experience of exports to other destinations.
