Serbia almost doubles apple exports to Russia – Ambassador
Exports of some Serbian products to Russia have grown by 150% after Russia has introduced an embargo on imports of some foodstuffs from a variety of countries, Mr. Slavenko Terzic, Ambassador of Serbia to Russia said to journalists.
«Exports of agricultural products have grown significantly. Fruit exports especially – shipments of apples, prunes. They have risen drastically. For example, I can say that apple exports have grown by 80%, and shipments of some other products have gone up even by 150%», said Mr. Terzic.
Relations between the Russian Federation and the West have worsened due to the situation in Ukraine. In late July 2014, the EU and the USA introduced sanctions against certain sectors of Russia's economy in addition to previously imposed ones against individuals. In response, Russia limited imports of foodstuffs from countries that had adopted economic sanctions against the Russian Federation.
Previously, during his visit to Moscow, Mr. Aleksandr Vucic, the Prime Minister of Serbia, said that Serbia remained one of a few European countries that had not introduced sanctions against Russia and would never do it in future.
