Ukrainian fresh produce price index sharply up last week
Fruit-Inform Ukrainian fresh produce price index has increased by 34% in the week from December 12th to 18th, a record rapid week-on-week rise in the current season after a slight decrease over the previous two weeks.
«Stabilization in shipments of Turkish cucumbers and tomatoes has resulted in a sharp rise in their prices in Ukraine», says Ms. Tetiana Getman, Head of Fruit-Inform. «This fact and a sharp increase in prices of citrus fruits for the same reason have favored such a rise in the price index under conditions of higher demand for products in view of closer New Year holidays».
As a result, greenhouse vegetables became 78% more expensive, and the fresh fruit price index grew by 18%. At the same time, prices of traditional vegetables kept on going down: -0.9% week-on-week.
