Polish growers concerned about low apple exports
Polish fruit growers are concerned about extremely low apple sales rates, according to FreshMarket. Moreover, apple prices keep on decreasing in the country.
Prices have gone down by 17% during the New Year holidays and now vary between 0.16-0.18 euro/kg.
The Polish fruit market is currently characterized by rather high supply of apples. We would remind you that Polish growers have put more than 1.2 mln tons of those fruits into storage in this season, according to WAPA. Storage volumes in 2014 were 2% higher, but Poland was able to actively ship apples to Russia thanks to stable re-exports through Belarus, Kazakhstan and Ukraine. However, Russia has seriously toughened its control over shipments from banned countries; therefore, Polish exports significantly fell against a background of weak demand for apples in the internal market.
Polish farmers expect an increase in exports closer to the end of January when, according to them, the demand for imported apples in other countries of Eastern Europe is expected to grow.
