Russian growers raise prices of high-quality apples

Russian growers have managed to raise their prices of high-quality apples this week, according to Fruit-Inform analysts who connect positive price trend with several factors.

First of all, the price growth is registered due to a significant rise in trading and purchasing activity in the Russian market. According to the market participants, the demand for high-quality apples is now shown by almost all categories of purchasers against rather moderate demand for domestic produce a week before.

At the same time, the supply of those apples is rather limited now, which also backs the price growth. Many growers offer produce of worsened quality in the majority of cases and plan to start selling apples of higher quality in early spring.

An increase in prices of imported apples due to instability in the Russian ruble exchange rates should also be noted. The price growth in the segment of imported produce also backs positive price trend in the domestic sector.

As a result, prices have grown by 10-15% since the beginning of this week. Now domestic farms are ready to ship apples at RUB 45-70/kg (USD 0.47-0.74/kg), depending on fruit size and variety, and say of red apples to be in the highest demand. It should also be noted that current prices of domestic apples have already grown by 27-30% year-on-year in Russia.
