Russian apple season 2015/16: record high prices under conditions of record high production
Fruit-Inform analysts believe that apple prices will reach record high in Russia in this season. Prices have already reached all-time high levels in the beginning of this season, and now apples are at least 30% more expensive in Russia compared with the previous year. The sector experts expect the difference in prices to only grow in the nearest time, and apples will most likely be sold at record high prices in the end of the season.
It should be noted that market analysts expect an unprecedented increase in prices despite growth in apple production in Russia. Positive price trend will be based on shortage of supply of imported inexpensive apples due to Crimea blockade and tougher customs control over shipments from Belarus and Kazakhstan. In other words, the Russian apple market still significantly depends on imports.
What factors will influence the apple market in Russia, Ukraine and Kazakhstan in the nearest 5 years? How long will it take Russian growers to substitute imports taking into account the state fruit growing support programs? How will Russian embargo affect the Ukrainian apple market development, and what opportunities are opened for Kazakh growers in connection with trade wars between Russia, EU and Ukraine? These and many other questions are answered in the fundamental study «Apple Business in Ukraine, Russia & Kazakhstan — 2016: Present Situation and Prospects in Growing, Storage, Handling, Processing and Marketing».
