Further increase in Ukrainian fresh produce price index
Fruit-Inform Ukrainian fresh produce price index has grown by 4.1% in the week from January 23rd to 29th, after a slight decrease after the New Year holidays.
«All fresh produce categories became more expensive last week; however, an increase in their prices was relatively insignificant», says Ms. Tetiana Getman, Head of Fruit-Inform. «Greenhouse vegetables still accounted for the largest part of the fruit and vegetable basket, an a rise of 5.7% in their prices made the most important contribution to an increase in the price index».
Prices of traditional vegetables went up by 3.4% due to more expensive white cabbage and carrots. At the same time, prices of potatoes, onions and table beets were stable.
As regards the fruit segment, lemons and mandarins became more expensive; however, the share of mandarins kept on decreasing in consumption structure. In total, the fresh fruit price index became 3.6% higher week-on-week.
