Crimea: lemon prices double year-on-year

Current prices of lemons fixed in Crimea are averagely twice as high as registered in the mid-March 2015, according to Fruit-Inform daily price monitoring.

Now lemons are offered at Krymskiy Privoz Wholesale Market, Simferopol, at RUB 135-150/kg (USD 1.81-2.01/kg), depending on quality and country of origin. For comparison, prices did not exceed RUB 80/kg (USD 1.31/kg) a year before.

Prices of other citrus fruits also grew compared with last year. However, an increase in prices was less significantly than in the lemon segment.

In particular, mandarins and oranges became 20% more expensive. Now sellers offer oranges at RUB 60-85/kg (USD 0.81-1.14/kg), depending on quality and country of origin. Mandarin prices vary between RUB 80-120/kg (USD 1.07-1.61/kg).

Meanwhile, grapefruits are sold at RUB 80-90/kg (USD 1.07-1.21/kg), an increase of 25-30% year-on-year.

The sector analysts connect such a sharp rise in prices with the Russian ruble devaluation and logistical problems in Crimea.
