Fruit-Inform Ukrainian fresh produce price index up by 13.9% week-on-week
Thank to more expensive greenhouse vegetables, Fruit-Inform Ukrainian fresh produce price index has jumped by 13.9% in the week from April 16th to 22nd, after an increase of 3% a week before.
«Prices of greenhouse vegetables went up by 37.8% last week due to worse weather conditions and rainfall», says Ms. Tetiana Getman, Head of Fruit-Inform. «In addition, the price growth was backed by a rise in exporters' demand for greenhouse produce».
Meanwhile, prices of traditional vegetables again went down by 5.9% after a decrease of 4.5% a week before. As usual, negative price trend was under the serious influence of the situation in the segment of early white cabbage, which was characterized by an increase in the demand against a background of lower trading activity in the segment of last year's produce. As a result, prices of early and last year's white cabbage can reach the same levels next week, and such a fact will be a crucial moment in pricing in the market for traditional vegetables.
In addition to white cabbage, a decrease in prices was registered in the segment of table beets. Onion prices stabilized and were expected to start growing again thanks to an increase in the demand both in the internal market and the EU.
Fruit and potato prices were stable last week.
