Strawberry prices down by 67% over two weeks in Ukraine

The Ukrainian strawberry season has been picking up steam, and current strawberry prices take just a third of those registered two weeks ago, according to Fruit-Inform.
We would remind you that Ukrainian growers started shipping their first volumes of strawberries after April 20 with starting prices varying between UAH 80-100/kg (EUR 2.70-3.45/kg). Now strawberries are offered at UAH 30-35/kg (EUR 1.00-1.20/kg).

Growers are forced to reduce their prices in connection with rapidly increasing supply of domestic strawberries against a background of rather moderate demand.

It should also be noted that greenhouse produce still accounts for the largest part of supply in Ukraine; however, growers have already reported of arrival of first volumes of field-grown strawberries, which are offered at UAH 40/kg (EUR 1.39/kg) and higher.

More detailed information about the Ukrainian fresh and frozen berry sector developments will be presented at the 7th International Conference «Berries of Ukraine-2016: Frozen Produce & Fresh Market», which will be held on May 19-20, 2016, Cherkasy, Ukraine.
