Ukraine: Polish apples twice as expensive as Ukrainian produce at Shuvar Wholesale Market
Polish apples are now offered at prices twice as high as those fixed for Ukrainian produce at Shuvar Wholesale Market, Lviv, Ukraine. Domestic farmers offer their apples at UAH 5-6/kg (EUR 0.18-0.21/kg). For comparison, Polish produce is sold at UAH 10-12/kg (EUR 0.35-0.42/kg). It should also be noted that volumes of Ukrainian apples offered at Shuvar Wholesale Market are at least three times as high as those of Polish ones.
There was no precedent for such a trend, as Ukrainian farmers had always managed to sell their stocks by early summer, and pricing usually depended on imported apples (of Polish origin mainly). In addition, it is interesting to note that current prices of Ukrainian apples take just a fifth of those fixed in the same period of the previous season. We would remind you that they varied between UAH 18-20/kg at Shuvar Wholesale Market a year before.
More detailed information about the Eastern European apple sector development will be presented at the 6th International Conference «Apple Business of Ukraine-2016», which is to be held on August 11-12, 2016, Cherkasy, Ukraine.
