Ukraine: fruit and vegetable prices sharply up due to a cold spell
Fruit-Inform Ukrainian fresh produce price index has jumped by 11.6% in the week from June 4th to 10th, after five previous weeks of negative trend. The price growth was registered due to cold and rainy weather conditions, which had negatively affected harvesting of early vegetables, fruits and berries.
The most significant growth in prices was registered in the cucumber segment: up 2.2 times. A rise in tomato prices was less significant and was observed thanks to both higher export demand and weather conditions.
Trends in the market for traditional vegetables were negative; however, the price fall significantly slowed down. Nevertheless, their prices went down by 5.4% (mainly thanks to negative trends in white cabbage and carrot prices), and potatoes became 6.7% less expensive.
Meanwhile, the fresh fruit price index went up by 1.9% thanks to a rise of 4.2% in sweet cherry prices and 11.1% more expensive strawberries.
