Crimea: prices of early carrots down
Prices of early carrots have been rapidly decreasing in the Crimean peninsula, according to Fruit-Inform.
Early produce has become averagely 46% less expensive over the past week. In particular, sellers at Krymskiy Privoz Wholesale Market, Simferopol, offer their early carrots at RUB 10-30/kg (USD 0.15-0.45/kg), depending on quality and shipment volume. We would remind you that prices were not lower than RUB 30/kg in the beginning of the past week.
The market participants connect such a sharp decrease in prices with higher supply of early produce in the local market. The majority of Crimean farmers have previously been forced to postpone their harvesting campaign due to rains. However, last week weather conditions were favorable, and growers were able to actively harvest their early carrots. As a result, the supply of produce sharply grew, and prices went down.
It should also be noted that current prices of early carrots are already 77% lower year-on-year. Furthermore, Crimean growers say of still moderate demand for their produce and expect prices to keep on decreasing in the local market.
