Further decrease in Ukrainian fresh produce price index
Fruit-Inform Ukrainian fresh produce price index went down by 11.4% in the week from June 24th to July 1st, after a decrease of 21.3% a week before. As a result, fruit and vegetable prices have fallen by almost a third over the past two weeks.
Thanks to a decrease of 30% and 16.9%, respectively, potatoes and greenhouse vegetables made the largest contribution to a fall in the price index last week. The segment of greenhouse vegetables was under the pressure of active shipments of tomatoes from the southern regions of Ukraine.
Traditional vegetables became 13.6% less expensive with the most significant falls in prices registered in the red beet, carrot and onion markets due to more active supply of early varieties. Meanwhile, prices of early white cabbages somewhat grew due to an inter-season period in the market.
Fruit prices went down by just 0.3%. Apples, strawberries and sweet cherries became more expensive against a background of a further decrease in prices of bananas, apricots, raspberries and sour cherries.
