Poland to increase vegetable production in 2016

According to preliminary expectations of Agricultural Economics and Food of Poland, domestic growers will most likely increase their production of vegetables this year.

Polish total vegetable production is expected to go up by 5% and reach 5 mln tons.

It should also be noted that an increase in total production will be based on higher production of field-grown vegetables, which is expected to reach slightly more than 4 mln tons, a rise of 6% year-on-year.

Cabbage will be the main crop in the Polish growers’ production structure with its production volumes expected to total 900,000 tons. Carrot production will amount to 700,000 tons, production of onions is expected at 630,000 tons, and growers will also harvest 330,000 tons of red beets, 225,000 tons of cauliflowers, 235,000 tons of field-grown tomatoes and 220,000 tons of field-grown cucumbers. Production of other vegetables will total 800,000 tons.

Meanwhile, the market analysts expect a slight decrease in production of greenhouse vegetables: down by 2% to 990,000 tons (550,000 tons of cucumbers, 260,000 tons of tomatoes and 180,000 tons of other greenhouse vegetable crops).

We would remind you that Polish vegetable crops have significantly suffered from unfavorable weather conditions in 2015. Meanwhile, current weather is rather favorable for the vegetable sector in Poland.
