Ukrainian fresh produce price index down by 10.7% in 1st week of autumn
Fruit-Inform Ukrainian fresh produce price index has decreased by 10.7% in the week from September 3rd to 6th, after relative stability a week before. The largest contribution to a decrease in the price index was made by tomatoes, which became 42.9% less expensive week-on-week.
It should be noted that prices of all fresh produce categories went down last week. In addition to tomatoes, carrot prices fell sharply. Growers made attempts to sell middle-season varieties before the start of harvesting campaign of late ones and were ready to reduce their prices under conditions of moderate demand. Onion prices continued to go down. In addition, potato prices have decreased for the first time over long period. As a result, the price index of traditional vegetables went down by 9.2% week-on-week.
The fresh fruit market was characterized by lower prices of melons and watermelons, which became 18.2% less expensive. Grape prices also decreased by 11.1%. As a result, the fresh fruit price index went down by 3.4%.
