Russia to lift ban on supplies of fruits, vegetables from Egypt within days - source
Russia will lift the ban on supplies of fruits and vegetables, except potatoes from Egypt within 3-5 days, a source in the Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance (Rosselkhoznadzor) told TASS Tuesday.
"Within 3-5 days," the source said.
On Monday, Russia and Egypt agreed that Russia’s regulator would lift its ban on supplies of all fruits and vegetables except potatoes from Egypt at a meeting in Moscow. Russia’s delegation plans to visit Egypt in October or November this year to assess the efficiency of measures assumed by the country to follow Russia’s phytosanitary requirements for potatoes supplies.
As was reported earlier Rosselkhoznadzor decided to impose temporary restrictions on imports of plant products from Egypt starting September 22 due to continuing supplies of quarantineable products unsafe from the phytosanitary viewpoint, which violates international and Russian laws. In 2016, a total of 47 cases of supplies of diseased plant products from Egypt to Russia were revealed.
The restrictions will be in force until the Egyptian side assumes efficient measures to ensure phytosanitary safety of products.
