Ukraine: cucumber prices at least twice as high as a year before

Cucumber prices have been rapidly growing at Ukrainian wholesale markets and are already at least twice as high as a year before, according to Fruit-Inform.

The sharpest rise in prices is observed at Shuvar Wholesale Market, Lviv, where cucumbers are offered at UAH 12/kg (EUR 0.41/kg), twice as high as a year before.

Prices have also grown by 30-33% week-on-week at Privoz Wholesale Market, Odessa, and now vary between UAH 13-20/kg (EUR 0.45-0.69/kg), depending on variety and quality.

Sellers at Nezhdanna Wholesale Market offer their produce at UAH 10-13/kg (EUR 0.34-0.45/kg), an increase of 25-30% compared with a week before.

Meanwhile, cucumbers are sold at UAH 13-14/kg (EUR 0.45-0.48/kg) at Stolychnyi Wholesale Market, Kiev, a rise of 25% week-on-week.

Sellers are able to raise their prices thanks to rather active demand for their produce. Meanwhile, the supply of cucumbers significantly decreased, as greenhouse farms’ outputs went down due to a cold spell in Ukraine.
