Cucumber prices double year-on-year in Crimea

Cucumber prices have been rapidly growing in Crimea, according to Fruit-Inform.

As a result, prices have increased by another 40% at Krymskiy Privoz Wholesale Market, Simferopol, over the past weekend. For the present, cucumbers are offered at RUB 35-70/kg (USD 0.55-1.10/kg), depending on variety and quality, there, more than twice as high as a year before.

The market analysts connect such a rise in prices with shortage of supply of cucumbers in the Crimean market. Russian farms offer lower volumes of produce due to cold weather, while the supply of local cucumbers is not active. Meanwhile, purchasing activity is rather high in the Crimean market; therefore, sellers manage to raise their prices.
