Further increase in Ukrainian fresh produce price index
Fruit-Inform Ukrainian fresh produce price index has grown by another 9.5% last week (October 1-7, 2016), after an increase of 15.3% a week before. As a result, the price index has become 33.1% higher over the past four weeks.
Greenhouse vegetables again made the largest contribution to an increase in the price index thanks to growth in their prices due to autumn weather, lower supply and exporters’ high demand. Tomato prices grew by 44.4% last week, and such a jump immediately negatively affected the demand. Sales of field-grown tomatoes also fell due to low quality of produce.
Prices of traditional vegetables and potatoes were stable last week. Meanwhile, prices of almost all fresh fruit categories changed last week. In particular, mandarins became 60% more expensive.
At the same time, prices of lemons and oranges somewhat went down. Apples also became less expensive due to their growing supply and low export possibilities.
