Poland reduces AJC exports in 2016

Polish companies have been reducing their apple juice concentrate (AJC) exports in 2016, according to portalspozywczy.pl.

Eurostat data show that Poland has exported 175,000 tons of AJC in the first eight months of 2016, a fall of 11% year-on-year.

The sharpest decrease is registered in Polish AJC exports to the US market, according to Ms. Magdalena Kowalewska, Agricultural Market Analyst at BGZ BNP Paribas Bank.

“Polish companies have shipped just 3,000 tons of apple juice concentrate to the USA in January-August 2016. For comparison, exports were 87% higher in the same period of the past year”, says Ms. Kowalewska.

Exports to the UK also fell by 21% and totaled just 16,000 tons.

A decrease in the export volumes was also registered in shipments to Germany: down by 4-5%. Meanwhile, despite a fall, Germany is still the leading importer of AJC from Poland with the import volumes at 85,000 tons (almost 50% of Poland’s total AJC exports).

Ms. Kowalewska connects a decrease in Polish AJC exports with rather severe competition with China in the global market. In addition, Fruit-Inform analysts believe that a decrease in exports was registered partially due to Polish manufacturers’ refocusing on the internal market. We would remind you that Poland has sharply reduced AJC imports in the first eight months of the current year, and they totaled just 33,000 tons, a fall of 40% year-on-year.
