Ukraine: cucumber prices up since beginning of this week
Cucumber prices have been going down at Ukrainian wholesale markets despite rather limited supply of domestic produce, according to Fruit-Inform.
As a result, prices have fallen averagely by 10% since the beginning of this week.
In the meantime, sellers at Shuvar Wholesale Market, Lviv, offer their cucumbers at UAH 55-57/kg (EUR 1.86-1.93/kg), depending on quality and variety. For comparison, a week before prices were not lower than UAH 62/kg (EUR 2.10/kg) there.
Cucumbers are also offered at UAH 63-68/kg (EUR 2.13-2.30/kg) at Stolychnyi Wholesale Market, Kiev, against reaching UAH 75/kg (EUR 2.54/kg) in the end of the past week.
Sellers are forced to reduce their prices in view of rather weak trading activity in the Ukrainian market. In addition, the quality of produce has been rapidly worsening. At the same time, it should be noted that imported cucumbers account for the largest part of supply in the Ukrainian market, while the supply of domestic produce is minimal.
Meanwhile, despite a fall in prices, cucumbers are still 80% more expensive year-on-year in Ukraine.
