Ukrainian frozen raspberry exports to EU significantly up
High demand for frozen raspberries in the EU countries has enabled Ukraine to significantly raise its exports, according to Fruit-Inform.
As a result, Ukraine has exported 7,200 tons of frozen raspberries in June 2016 – February 2017, 3.4 times as high as in the same period of the previous season, with about 95% of those volumes to have been shipped to the EU. It should also be noted that the EU countries have more than tripled imports of frozen raspberries from Ukraine.
Poland has been the leading destination for Ukrainian frozen raspberries for the third year in a row with the share of more than 50% in Ukraine’s total exports in this season: 3,800 tons in June 2016 – February 2017, 3.3 times as high as in the same period of the previous season. Poland faced a significant loss of its raspberry crop due to bad weather conditions last year, and Polish processors were forced to compensate shortage of supply of raw berries by imports from Ukraine.
Germany and the Czech Republic were the second and third largest importers of frozen raspberries from Ukraine, respectively. Germany more than doubled, and the Czech Republic more than quadrupled its imports from Ukraine in the mentioned period.
