Ukrainian apple exports reach 6-year high in February 2017
Ukrainian apple exports have reached 6-year high in February 2017, according to Fruit-Inform.
The export volumes totaled 1,700 tons, twice as high as in February 2016, when exports had totaled just 793 tons. As a result, the export volumes in February were the highest since 2012 as well as in January.
Ukraine’s cumulative exports of apples in July 2016 – February 2017 amounted to 11,000 tons, a rise of 60% year-on-year, with Belarus as the main destination (about 80% of total exports). An increase of 45% in apple exports to Belarus should also be noted.
Meanwhile, apple prices have been relatively stable in Ukraine since the beginning of March 2017. Now growers are ready to ship apples at UAH 5-10/kg (EUR 0.17-0.34/kg), depending on quality, fruit size and variety. Growers are unable to revise their prices in view of even a slight increase in them having an immediately negative impact on the demand. Nevertheless, current prices of Ukrainian apples are averagely 11% higher year-on-year.
