Macedonia: early white cabbage prices down by a third over weekend
Macedonian growers have significantly reduced prices of early white cabbage over the past weekend. According to Info-Shuvar, Macedonian farms offered their early produce at 0.50-0.55 euro/kg yesterday. Three days before that, prices varied between 0.68-0.70 euro/kg.
We would remind you that the Macedonian early white cabbage season started in early March, 14-20 days later than usual, and prices were slowly going down in the past two weeks in view of stably high demand in the external market.
However, in view of a recent warm spell, the supply of early white cabbage is growing faster than the demand, provoking a fall in prices in the country.
Negative pricing trend has had no effect on prices in Ukraine yet, but, nevertheless, Ukrainian importers expect a decrease in prices in the nearest time. Now early white cabbage of Macedonian origin is offered at UAH 33-35/kg (EUR 1.17-1.25/kg) at Ukrainian wholesale markets.
