Carrot prices quadruple in Ukraine over a month
Ukrainian farmers continue to actively raise their carrot prices, according to Fruit-Inform. As a result, prices have at least quadrupled over the past month.
In the meantime, carrots are offered at UAH 7-10/kg (EUR 0.24-0.34/kg), depending on quality and delivery terms, against no higher than UAH 7.50/kg (EUR 0.26/kg) in the end of the past week. The Ukrainian market participants connect such a situation with a seasonal decrease in the supply of carrots under conditions of rather high demand for them. In addition, the price growth is backed by lack of imported produce in the domestic market. It should also be noted that carrot prices have been growing since at least the end of March and already managed to at least quadruple over that period. We would remind you that Ukrainian growers were selling their carrots at no higher than UAH 2.50/kg (EUR 0.09/kg) in late March 2017.
Furthermore, thanks to a recent rise, prices of Ukrainian carrots have already reached last year’s levels of UAH 8-10/kg.
