Ukrainian growers start their cherry campaign
The Ukrainian market operators have reported of arrival of first volumes of domestic cherries, according to Fruit-Inform.
Harvesting has been started by a few farms, which ship cherries in small quantities at UAH 35-45/kg (EUR 1.19-1.53/kg), depending on quality, fruit size and variety.
It should be noted that this year the Ukrainian cherry campaign started averagely two weeks later than usual due to abnormally cold spring. However, the majority of growers do not expect any serious losses from bad weather. Nevertheless, quality of cherries may be affected by bad weather conditions.
We would remind you that in the same period of the previous season cherry prices were half as high as present levels, and the majority of farms had already started their campaign. This year farmers expect the supply of cherries to increase significantly only by early June.
