Ukraine: cucumber prices up thanks to limited supply
Lack of supply of cucumbers in the Ukrainian market has backed their price growth, according to Fruit-Inform. As a result, growers are now selling their cucumbers at prices 22% higher year-on-year.
Current prices vary between UAH 20-26/kg (EUR 0.64-0.83/kg), depending on sales region and quality, while a week before prices stood at UAH 15/kg (EUR 0.48/kg) and higher.
The Ukrainian market participants connect positive trend with rather limited supply of cucumbers, as the majority of greenhouse farms have already finished sales of their first crop, while other growers’ outputs are rather moderate. Wholesalers try to compensate shortage of domestic supply by imports from Turkey, which, however, are still irregular and low.
Nevertheless, it should be noted that current prices of Ukrainian cucumbers are similar to those fixed in the same period of the previous year.
