Ukraine: growing supply of domestic cucumbers affects prices of Turkish produce
Ukrainian market players were forced to reduce their prices of greenhouse cucumbers from Turkey in view of a rise in supply of domestic produce, reports Fruit-Inform.
According to the daily monitoring data, prices of Turkish cucumbers in the Ukrainian market have tumbled by 19% on the average since the beginning of the previous week. Thus, by the end of the week, cucumber prices varied between UAH 35-38/kg (EUR 1.06-1.15/kg). However, sellers reported of negative price trend to have no impact on sales rates.
At the same time, Ukrainian greenhouse farms had no problems with sales of new cucumber crop. This produce was in high demand in both the internal and external markets. Therefore, even under conditions of growing supply, growers had no need to reduce their cucumber prices. As a result, at the end of the week, cucumber prices ranged between UAH 48-52/kg (1.45-1.57/kg), which was 7-8% higher compared to the same period of 2017.
