Azerbaijan boosts fruit and vegetable exports
In 2017 Azerbaijan exported more fruits and vegetables compared to the previous year, reports Interfax-Azerbaijan referring to the State Statistical Committee of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
According to the official data, Azerbaijan exported 229,700 tons of vegetables, an 84% rise compared to 2016, worth $184 mln (+62%). Meanwhile, the country shipped to the external market 260,700 tons of fruits amounting to $292 mln; up 21% by volume and 20% by value.
As regards horticultural processing sector, over the last year Azerbaijani exports of fruit and vegetable juices reached 9,672 tons (+57%) worth $10 mln (+63%), natural grape wines and must – 37 500 liters totaling $6 mln, which was 98% and 67% more against 2016. Exports of canned fruits and vegetables stood at 5,950 tons (+3%) worth $5 mln (-0.5%).
Total fruit imports to Azerbaijan amounted to 74,939 tons (+3%) by volume and $67 mln (+5%) by value, while vegetable imports totaled 28,083 tons (-38%) worth $15 mln (-12%). As for potatoes, figures reached 160,400 tons (-12%) by volume and $33 mln (-2%) by value.
