Kazakhstan: imports of EU pears up
In this season the EU countries have been actively expanding their presence in the Kazakhstani pear market, according to Fruit-Inform.
In July 2017 – January 2018 the EU countries shipped 5,600 tons of pears to Kazakhstan, a rise of 47% year-over-year, with Belgium showing the most rapid export increase rates. Belgian exporters managed to ship about 3,000 tons of pears to Kazakhstan during the reported period, twice as high as in the same months of the previous season. As a result, Belgium became the leading supplier of pears to Kazakhstan, while a season before it had ranked just second.
In their turn, the Netherlands lost their lead and were the second largest supplier of pears to Kazakhstan, with steady export volumes of 1,700 tons.
As before, China ranked third, and Kazakhstan imported 1,300 tons of Chinese pears in July 2017 – January 2018, a rise of 60%.
Kazakhstan’s total imports of pears amounted to 7,600 tons in the first 7 months of the current season, 38% higher than in the same period of the previous one.
