Russia: freight port in Rostov-on-Don will be expanded
New port facility is going to be constructed in the Russian city of Rostov-on-Don, REGNUM news agency has informed. The facility will be located below the railway drawbridge, which significantly hampers current operations of existing facilities in Rostov port, and will expand the shipping capacity of the port by 1.3 million tonnes of freight per year.
The first line of the newly-built port location is going to be commissioned in the middle of 2005. It will allow to step up the shipments by way of redirecting them from the ports of Ukraine, writes the news agency. Further on, the Rostov facility will be able to ease the workload of Novorossiysk port.
